Use an omni directional antenna if you want to receive stations from more than one direction. A directional HD FM antenna will receive stations strong from the direction it is pointed as well as reject stations from back and sides. This helps reduce interference from stations that are close in frequency to the station you want to receive. You would usually want to install a rotor with a directional FM antenna to allow you to point at other stations
