In most locations HDTV OFF Air signal is on UHF frequency. UHF only antennas tend to be smaller than antennas that need to receive VHF as well as UHF. In my location the analog UHF stations come in with some snow off my combination U/V antenna but come in crystal clear on digital tv antenna and HDTV and never break up. HDTV off air comes in much better than my standard Directv signal.
